Who Killed Bambi?

chris-heads

“A dangerous criminal gang is riding the net. They act in the dark, exploring the most sinister places, in search for the bloody heart of talent and creativity. Their favourite victims are banality, conformism, lack of humor and good will at any cost. Killing Bambi is a good metaphor for their mission. They are unarmed, actually, but they can still hurt.
So be careful…”

Their mission fits you? Then click; whokilledbambi.

I could be considered as a lunatic who carried this book all the way from Berlin to Istanbul. When I came here, I noticed that the book consists of really good layout examples for graphic designers. I highly recommend.

dripbook : the online portfolio site

if you do not have an official web site that presents your portfolio, or such as ipek and me, if you own a site but have not designed it yet (urbanrabbithole), it is really hard to find an online portfolio site which you think will satisfy your needs. i’ve been looking for the most efficient site all over the web, since I am so bad at surfing on the net it was an awful experience for me.

anyway, I succeeded in my mission; come this way: dripbook

be careful when you apply because it is like an exam since you can not just apply and have an account, they let you in if you’re enough sufficient according to their criterias; moreover, as soon as you get in, you understand that you have to pay for them to publish your portfolio. anyway, I have not uploaded anything yet but there it comes; my online portfolio.

Cmena (Smena) 8M

cmena 8m

as an analog camera addict I have an advise for the ones who are willing to start using analog cameras or have already used but looking for a new spark.

a year ago, Lomo Cmena 8M was my third analog camera apart from my holga and dear daddy’s ancient Minolta. I could easily say that this 9dollars tiny machine has been giving immensly devastating results. Ive used nearly every commercial Lomography fetish objects but as far as I experienced, none of them got even closer to Cmena 8M. if youre about to,  forget about buying a new Lomo Colorsplash or Lomo Fisheye (to admit, sometimes I use them, Jasmine has these), do not spend 100-200dollars for a camera thats owned by everyone whilst you have a chance to own an exquisite creation for only 9dollars.

then,

if you own one, try to take my advise and use DIA film for low saturated images, if its possible, use an external flash.

by the way, if you’re obsessed with light leaks there is one thing which could totally compensate the absence of any other Lomo cameras; youre going to find colorful transparent papers, stick them onto your external flash, then you’re gonna obtain the exact result you want.

here are some of my photos with Cmena, DIA film used.

have you ever been to Bruges ?

brugge

everybody has the conceptualisation of wonderland on their minds, right?

i’ve encountered the real wonderland called Bruges / Brugge – whatever you say – in a country called Belgium.  we did not stay there for a long time, only two days ; in contrary, i was so “bewitched” by the city that I did everything that could be done in two days time.

here is the list of musts if you go there. sorry, ” must GO THERE.”

numero one: wander around for a while until you are lost. i was lost after 20 minutes, but it wont matter you’ll see it’s a really small city. (you should be alone and without a map.)

numero two: eat salmon sandwich! if you don’t like salmon forget about it, but if you’re the one who adores it, i could say that I can’t forget the taste. think, i’m even writing this to my blog.

numero three (prerequisite no:1) : when youre lost, you’re gonna encounter a lake and a small forest nearby. stop there and lay down for half an hour. lit a cigarette. (for non-smokers, watch around)

numero four: there is a greek buffet there, should try it.

numero five: stay in Charlie’s Rockets Hostel. meet that Russian guy who’s responsible from the entire hostel and its bar. he can’t speak in English but he knows Russian and Dutch. although we could not talk to him, he was one of the best characters ive seen during my entire interrail trip.

numero six: and get lost again in the middle of the night before you eat some chocolate.

Design and the Elastic Mind – Bit.fall

bit.fall

The interface “Bit.fall” is constructed by the German designer Julius Popp whom I think did a great job in terms of giving the audience visual feast as well as implementing his artwok a substantial meaning. The interface is formed by a horizontal module with computer controlled valves hung from the ceiling and this module creates rain droplets which are released at precise times and frequencies in order to create words one by one to form a powerful imagery. This imagery supplies the meaning that’s aimed to be given as well.

As Popp states, his creation tries to remind the audience to think about the unnecessary information that has been disturbing their mind which he metaphorically depicts this point of view with the aspect of “flood”.

The illustration above indicates that a highly symmetrical and “devoted” mechanism is constructed in order to provide an accurate outcome from the interface. The construction itself is a big deal, and then the whole design is great. Like a saying; ‘Mission Accomplished’. Moreover, the metaphorical depiction of  high frequency information that is not been able to be obstructed by human beings, becomes a powerful imagery.  To admit, Popp’s visualisation is a good tool as a reminder for the unavoidable reality which makes the audience think about the incomes and outcomes of it.

When I read about the “Bit.fall” ,  although I am not able to see the actual interface, I was impressed by the design, and the idea it carries. Nowadays, I am so overwhelmed by the information flood which is gradually increased and creates an immense environment around me just like a living object. The worse part is that, sometimes you do not understand the exhaustion that this “flood” causes, and you keep on trying to have them all. Yes we are all created insatiable; however, I bet no one denies that millions of details and revealed facts make us learn more and more, make us curious, make as wanderers.

What if we focus on particular informations and try to overcome with those? Is this possible? I dont think so. We are diverted into so many things, and now less is not enough.
